Penumbra
is an attempt to translate a fun playing card game into a digital version for Godot Wild Jam #82, following the theme “unseen”. In the traditional game, most of the cards remain hidden throughout. The long term aim is develop a roguelike deck-builder with a horror spin, to be played against the House Penumbra.

  • Update 0.1.1.9
Implemented a version of a game of Cheat based on the Bluffing Biscuits project made for the Brackeys Game Jam 2025.2.
. The Black King AI is further developed and now can memorise it's own cards, take advantage of cards powers and mirror the top card on the discard pile.
. Added some light and shadow effects throught the menu.. Bug fixes here and there.
. Can now use Esc to access the menu on a round.

  • Black King Rules
. Each player has a 2x2 grid of cards face down.
. At the start of the game, you can peek at the closest two for 2 seconds.
. Each turn, you can draw from the deck or discard pile, replace one in your hand and/or discard it.
. Some discarded cards have special effects: (9: Peek at an opponent's card, 10: Swap any two cards without looking, Jack: Peek at one of your own cards, Queen: Look and swap cards)
. Every card scores its value, except the King of Clubs that is worth 0.
. Between turns, you can try and mirror the top of the discard pile: if you're right, you get one less card on your hand; if you're wrong, the game ends and you lose.
. The game ends when a player has no more cards in the hand or rings the bell.
. The goal is to end the game with the minimum points possible.
  • Cheat Rules
. Each player starts with 6 cards in their hand.
. A value to be discarded is set, and it goes up by one each turn.
. On their turn, the player select at least on card in their hand and discard it.
. The discarded card should match the current value needed, but the players can bluff at any time.
. If another player suspects it is a bluff, they can call it.
. If it was a bluff, the player that discarded draws a number of cards equal to the number discarded; but if the player was telling the truth, the caller draws all cards in the discard pile.
. The player who empties their hand first wins.
